Translation Circle Incubation

The Translation Circle is a group of multicultural and multilingual individuals with a sensitivity for Permaculture Concepts across frontiers. More than just technical translation, our group offers bridges, allowing more dynamic exchanges to happen between local, regional and international permaculture groups and individuals within the PC Colab as to its external collaborators and followers.

The translation circle service is a prototype of a regenerative enterprise model that offers translation services to collectives of people and individuals across the planet who are looking for a technically knowledgeable and culturally sensitive translation service of material that is directed towards Design for Sustainability.

We feel this ecological niche allows us to help accelerate succession to a truly sustainable future whilst generating right livelihoods in the socio-economic environment.

Objectives

– Translation of the PC CoLab’s core documents, maintaining a style and sense of written coherence.
– A personal bridge to a larger and more diverse network of permaculture practitioners, mediating between cultures by showing understanding of the cultural backgrounds and adapting the information from one emissor to the final recipient.
– Translation service ad hoc (written and spoken – as interpreters) available to partners of the CoLab as well as external PC practitioners and anyone working in the Sustainability and Regenerative Design field.
– Create a glossary of words and terminologies that are being used by the CoLab community at present and might be used for future projects in order to make this vocabulary (possibly rather “academic” or “business-like” for some) accessible to all.
– Implementing research on specific terms and technicalities related to permaculture and the functioning of the CoLab, building on work of others already committed to this task and co-creating valuable resources across languages with them

OUTCOMEs

February 2023 Update

We have informed the #general-circle of our decision to dismantle our closed structure, after completing the 2-year process in which we committed to investigating a business model for a possible permaculture translation organization.

We tried on the NextCloud but preferred working on our Miro board and kept a record in a Google Drive, as even the Miro board felt not inclusive at times (loading capacity, device from which members were connecting, quick reference etc).

So as of 2023, we are an “open” circle, with no formal pattern of meetings or projects on the go. Feel free to connect with Aline VaMo if you’d like to take an active role in changing that.

Educator Commons Collaboration

The Educators Membership and Permaculture Association are co-developing an online learning platform and commons to enable the delivery of remote and blended permaculture and other modules and courses.

The online learning platform will be developed to a state where it is possible for CoLab and its allied networks to create their own online courses. This platform can be used later for upskilling and onboarding into CoLab itself for example.

objectives

Use this learning to make a template for CoLab and it’s wider network to create courses and engage CoLab in the best use of resources to develop a course.
Promote the CoLab through the Online Learning project course and communications (MOG’s, educators slack, newsletters, commons meetings etc), so to engage more people with CoLab

DESIRED OUTCOME

Help them identify the best technologies and processes to support which will be the basis of our learning:
– The move to open source platform
– Align the tech with Open badges
– Blended Transformative learning
– Reach a wider audience
– Develop their current work on accessibility, inclusion and equity
– Reaching further with their international educators membership for the commons
