Permaculture Books

A lot of permaculture books have been written since the word Permaculture was coined.

We asked CoLab members which books have had the largest impact on their permaculture journey and why.

Aline VaMo

RetroSuburbia (David Holmgren, Retrofitting the Built, the Biological and the Behavioural in a suburban setting – the model for our cooperative La Casa Integral).

People and Permaculture (Chapter 4 got me out of Activist Burnout in 2018).

The Earth Restorer’s Guide to Permaculture (Rosemary Morrow – focus on the marine ecosystems and “dense” communities like urban contexts or refugee camps).

Vida Ashmole

“Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer and “Active Hope” by Joanna Macy are the two books which really grounded and opened up my worldview to articulate more-than-human needs and design from a place of wholeness.

Nenad Maljkovic

Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison and Reny Mia Slay, published in the Croatian language in 1996.
