CoLab Blog Submission Guidelines

International Permaculture CoLab Blog Submission Guidelines

We are excited and feel privileged to be able to offer space on the www.perma.earth website for CoLab members and Allied Networks to communicate, inform, and educate. We are offering a platform to promote CoLab circles, working groups and member’s work across all permaculture domains. Links to these articles will be added to the CoLab’s monthly newsletters and promoted in the CoLab’s social media accounts.

Why are we offering this opportunity to publish on this blog: We want to share and promote permaculture events and information from the CoLab and Allied Networks into the world. For you this is an opportunity for your events and information to be visible. For us, it creates varied and interesting content for the CoLab website.

Know your audience: Our audience are people who are interested in permaculture. Some are at the beginning of their journey and finding out more about the permaculture movement, some run or are members of grassroot permaculture projects, and others are involved at regional or national levels within associations. Technical terms should either be avoided or include a definition with them.

Relevance: The topic of the article should be directly related to one or more of the following; the work of a CoLab circle or working group, a CoLab member’s own work within one or more permaculture domains and / or an Allied partners work within any permaculture domain/s.

Voice: The author should write in their own voice and not on behalf of others – views and opinions are only that of the author and are not endorsed by the CoLab or others within the CoLab. If authors are writing on behalf of a circle or working group, a link to that consent thread on slack is required at submission together with a sentence in the article naming the people represented in the article.

Word total: Minimum 500, maximum 1500 words.

Images: We are trying to keep our digital footprint as low as possible, if you want to add an image to your article or blog post please not more than 1 picture with the text and 1 profile picture for each author. Images must come with alt-text and links to the source / accreditation. File size needs to beunder 64 MB.

Format: To aid legibility please use short paragraphs rather than longer blocks of text.

URLs/Links: URLs to be included written in full.

Fact-checking & Sources: Check your facts and quotations and cite original sources (provide links to relevant websites). Previously published work may also be submitted but please indicate when and where it was first published. Content that is published here may be re-published by guest bloggers on their own sites, but they should attribute first publication (and include a link) to this blog.

Use of AI / Chat GPT: If you are using an AI program please insert a sentence at the end of your article to that effect: eg. “The author has used Chat GPT in order to correct style and grammatical errors.” Note that we do not accept articles written entirely by AI programs. We may use an AI Detector.

We will not: Publish any article which calls for action that goes against the three permaculture ethics namely, care for the planet, care for the people, fair shares. This is a non-violent publication.

Author bio: Include About the Author text limited to 50 words and a link to your website and/or social media channels.

Submission: Submit your work as a slack post on #colab-communications-engagement slack channel.

Review process: All submissions are reviewed by CoLab members, you may be asked clarifying questions or additional information in line with these guidelines.
