SumApp Mapping Community Offers and Needs Market
Join us for a unique network building experience! One common and fundamental role that social system maps may play is by allowing members to connect resources with needs. Indeed, our own Social System Mapping Community of Practice map has an ‘Offers and Asks’ view. Whether it is matching knowledge with curiosity, shared desires to collaborate, or work opportunities with skills – exchange is a powerful way to build connection and create value in a community.
The Offers and Needs Market is a guided process where community members come together to identify and exchange their passions, knowledge, skills, resources and needs – creating the very kinds of connections we often seek to facilitate with our maps.
In this DeepDive, we’ll spend one hour participating in a real live Offers and Needs Market, with a half hour discussion afterwards to reflect on how this experience is relevant to our work as mappers.
The process:
1 Offers Exploration
Individuals are guided through a process of identifying what they’d like to offer others, how available they’d like to make those offers, and what they’d like to charge (if anything) for those offers.
2 Offers Exchange
Offers are shared in groups of up to 6 people, using a rapid-fire formula. Participants record offers they’d like to take up, throughout the process.
3 Needs Exploration
Individuals are guided through a process of identifying what they’d need, how urgent their needs are, and what they’re willing to pay (if anything) to have their needs met.
4 Needs Exchange
Needs are shared in groups of up to 6 people, using a rapid-fire formula. Participants record needs they may be able to help fulfill, throughout the process.
This DeepDive will be facilitated by Naryan Wong, and will use Miro.

A monthly session for:
- Meeting other Social System Mappers
- Learning more about a specific Social System Mapping topic
- Sharing your experience and learning with other Social System Mappers
The main session will be an hour – with an OPTIONAL additional 1/2 hour at the end for those who want to participate in small group ‘give and get help’ breakouts.
Who should attend?
These sessions are designed for people who are:
- Already have a basic understanding of what Social System Mapping is.
- Have made some maps, are in some maps or are seriously considering starting a map.
- Somewhere in the process and full of questions (be they visioning, technical or sense-making).
- Wanting to connect with other Social System Mappers.
