What's going on!

CoLab Website Updates

The International Permaculture CoLab website now has a series of pages all about permaculture, designed with input from CoLab members. The topics covered include; permaculture ethics, permaculture principles, books, zones, social tools, domains, permaculture for fun, client interviews, and what is permaculture?

Here is a link to the "What is permaculture?" page, which links to all other pages.

Community Permaculture Projects Support

Hello Community Permaculture Projects! What is the impact of your project? Do you know?

Sign up now for our new (and free!) action learning group (starting Oct/Nov 2024) for permaculture projects that want to explore and communicate their impact. We also have a few spots available for 1-1 mentoring.

This is a great opportunity for projects that want to improve, convince funders and amplify their work, by creating a portfolio of impact and evaluation for their community-based permaculture project. The group will meet online regularly over several months, and participants will undertake assignments between sessions. Assignments will be about, and useful to, your permaculture project or organisation. Group sessions will be supportive and motivational. We will use a mixture of group sessions, online courses and resources, and some 1-1 mentoring to help you to build up your portfolio of impact.

If your project is interested in undertaking this kind of work, please email us (contact@permacultureimpact.org) to express your interest. Please only apply if you feel motivated, and have the capacity within your project to attend regular meetings (1-2 hours every few weeks) and do work on your portfolio between sessions (1 - 2 hours/week).

PINA Annual Design Contest

Have you ever wanted to get your permaculture project partially funded? Now is your chance!
Our friends at PINA (The Permaculture Institute of North America) are hosting their annual design contest. This year's theme is Design for Impact.

Can you create a permaculture design that solves major issues elegantly, and that catches on like a wildfire for positive change? They want to showcase your amazing designs and they want to award you with up to $5000 to implement your design!

Together, we can continue to show the transformative power of permaculture to the communities and ecosystems that need it the most. If you or your students are excited about the idea of creating impactful designs, head on over to the Design Contest Submissions page to learn more and apply.

Deadline date - October 15th.

International Permaculture Conference

This is a special invitation to support Paul Odiwour Ogola who has a fantastic opportunity to showcase his permaculture work at the International Permaculture Conference (IPC15) in Taiwan. To make this happen, he needs help to cover travel & accommodation expenses.

Paul is the founder of PermoAfrica Centre, a leading permaculture hub in Kenya known for innovative practices and comprehensive permaculture training. Since 2016, Paul and his team have shared skills in organic farming, permaculture and food security with over 10,000 farmers.

Please donate if you can, or share this message with other networks who might be able to help. Apart from helping Paul attend IPC15, your contribution will help share his valuable insights in Taiwan, and bring back fresh ideas to further enhance permaculture practices in East Africa.

Reclaiming Earth Podcast

Diversity and Decolonization

The International Permaculture CoLab recognises that permaculture history, ethics, principles and practices have deep roots in many indigenous cultures.

This section of our newsletter is dedicated to addressing gaps in knowledge, highlighting resources and important work. We seek to promote, share and support diversity and decolonization projects, organisations and shared knowledge around the world that are aligned with our vision of a socially just world where we live in harmony with nature.

Rising Above The Heat

How are women disproportionately impacted by extreme heat events?

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has done an incredible job of exploring the deepening heat crisis' multifaceted impact on women, examining the interwoven health, social, and economic challenges.

This interactive resource brims with information crucial in understanding the urgent need for action to address the consequences of increased heat and what can be done to strengthen women's resilience to its impacts.
